How will NMVTIS fines be decided?

The Department of Justice has published enforcement information on how the NMVTIS penalty process will work. Under the NMVTIS regulations, failure to report junk, salvage and total loss vehicles as required may result in assessment of a civil penalty of $1,000 per violation. Fines will be determined by three factors – the size of the business, how large the violation was, and whether or not the business has at least tried to comply with the regulations.

DOJ Releases NMVTIS Penalty Considerations

The Department of Justice has published enforcement information regarding how the NMVTIS penalty decision process will work. Under the NMVTIS regulations, failure to report junk, salvage and total loss vehicles as required may result in assessment of a civil penalty of $1,000 per violation. The Department has previously indicated that "DOJ is not obligated to perform a site visit or provide additional time to provide data or correct reporting deficiency before imposing any penalty."
